Mic Wars Football (MWF) 2014 Draft Results
Andre Johnson is an example of eXpertLeagues.com’s Randy Dean stocking up on WRs early in a deep league.
The rules and scoring for this league generally follow the basic Yahoo PPR settings. After picking Peyton Manning early in the Ultimate Football Challenge draft, I wanted to take a different approach to this deeper, 14-team league. In the first five rounds, I wanted to leave with two top RBs and three very good WRs, and I think I succeeded. I am very high on DeMarco Murray and Giovani Bernard in PPR leagues, and Kendall Wright was underrated with his miniscule TD total last season. Andre Johnson is normally reliable, and Michael Floyd’s upside is through the roof with Coach Arians’ vertical offense. Mike Wallace should be a good flex, and I have to believe the ‘Fins can find a way to get this playmaker the ball. A mid-draft a trade was consummated where I acquired Dennis Pitta for Jonathan Stewart, so that solidified my TE spot, as he is paired with Martellus Bennett in the pass-heavy Chicago offensive attack. Russell Wilson is a great value in the 8th round and rounded out my starting lineup in good fashion. Defense and kicker were less of a concern. Nick Novak is tolerable, and there is some room for improvement and a less-than-amazing division in which New England plays. Some of my favorite picks by other owners were Jordan Reed in the 8th, Jordan Matthews in the 9th, and Ahmad Bradshaw in the 10th–all great values with a real shot at making a difference. 14-team leagues are the embodiment of expert leagues, and the Fantasy Nomad (Michael Pichan) took advantage of the early draft pick with Matt Forte, Arian Foster, Rashad Jennings, and Matthew Stafford anchoring his roster.
