Dave McKay (The Fantasy Sports Brain) is hoping that J.D. Martinez will continue to show the power he displayed last season after paying $18 for him this year.
This AL-only league functions much like the Tout Wars and LABR fantasy baseball industry leagues. It’s a standard 5×5 Rotisserie league (though Tout now uses OBP instead of our traditional AVG). We run FAAB at 11 am on Saturdays so you can see the results to prepare for your own Sunday night FAAB (and also 11 am on Mondays in case of any Saturday or Sunday injuries).
Here are the participants, alphabetical by last name:
- Ivar Anderson, Fantasy Alarm

In the first of 3 auctions in three nights, the plan here was to have a few superstars and fill the rest in. That materialized well for me, my hitting core is Miggy ($39), Altuve ($32), and Abreau ($38). Never a fan of two catchers in general, let alone an AL-only league this season, I passed on all of the big names and was left with both being dollar bin guys, maybe Swihart gets the call early and Phegley adds anything, if not I can take the hit if my big three remain healthy and I get the kind of seasons I expect from Moss, A. Escobar, Hunter, and the combo of Plouffe/Sano. On the pitching side, I was willing to pay up to if not a little more than Betances’ $21 price tag to acquire an elite reliever not named Holland regardless of if he was named the official closer as of 3/17/15. Feliz was my second closer, and I paired him with O’Day and Farquhar for the occasion save and nice ratios. My starters rely a lot on guys fulfilling their potential in Bauer, Eovaldi, Gibson, and bounce-back seasons for Buchholz and CJ Wilson. Being two owners short affected the draft but a deal of me receiving Smardijiza for Mauer and Joyce has already been agreed upon with one of the absent owners to give me my ace and to add some hitting to his team and this league should be very interesting to follow for many reasons.
My first AL Only league of the season went fairly well. I bid up a bit on Edwin Encarnacion ($44) and Jose Bautista ($41), but I think Toronto’s offense will have a monster season with the addition of Josh Donaldson (their pitching is a whole other story, especially after Marcus Stroman’s injury). After getting the “bash brothers” north of the border, and my true AL Only favorite George Springer ($28), a bargain compared to what I would have paid for him, I was strapped for cash, buy by design. It ensured I wouldn’t bid up the young starters, but I still had enough to get the one’s I truly wanted. I’m happy with Yordano Ventura as my ace, although I would like a little more depth after that.
Obviously Singleton not making the team hurts, as well as Holland’s recent injury but getting Vogt at $3 could be my buy of the draft. Little did I know I would need him so much more after Vazquez went down. Certainly in the market for pitching, but I think my hitting, and depth at hitting can compete with anyone. Anderson with Fantasy Alarm has quite a bit of pitching depth but I really don’t see any team that screams “winner” on paper. Should be a hard fought league to the end. For any more insight, don’t hesitate to contact me on twitter @Pwall_1989
My infatuation for Springer can be found at http://socalledfantasyexperts.com/2015-fantasy-player-profile-george-springer/.
